Call out for Black UK-based composers:

This application is now closed.
Many thanks to all who applied. News about the project to follow soon.

We are commissioning a Black UK-based composer to join the PeoplePower vs. PowerPeople composition team.

PeoplePower vs. PowerPeople is a multimedia musical event weaving together personal experiences and political critiques of several contemporary conflicts and oppressions around the world. Three artists will combine their voices into a work for piano and visuals; each composer will focus on a struggle close to their heart, fleshing out an individual reality, while the complete performance articulates the connections between these injustices. The full work will be performed with Yshani Perinpanayagam at the piano and will last around 50 minutes

.

PeoplePower vs PowerPeople will be a collaborative work composed by Uri Agnon, Yshani Perinpanayagam and a third composer chosen by this application process. The piece will be created through both individual composition and collaborative work. We are seeking an early- mid career Black UK-based composer from any musical/artistic background with an interest in political/activist music. The chosen composer will be paid £500 to create the third thread that forms this show. The piece will be performed live at the University of Southampton during 2021, as well as in other venues tbc.
